Coordinator, Mike Borders

Mike started working with Special Olympics for the basketball season in 1992. He started with Dr. Pat Owens, who originally started the program. Mike was a volunteer basketball coach, and a couple years later started coaching track. As UASO continued to grow he added soccer and then softball to his coaching duties. Mike's long history and dedication has profoundly established & contributes to the ongoing success of Upper Arlington Special Olympics. Thank you Mike! Mike is retired and enjoying additional new adventures.

The UASO Coordinator's primary responsibility is to reserve locations, schedule sports, submit participation forms, manage medical and release forms, communication with the State Special Olympics office, manage uniforms and equipment locker, and recruit volunteers utilizing connections with schools, churches, or other business or organizations to recruit & communicate volunteer opportunities. UASO is completely run by Volunteers! 

Volunteers are needed for all practices & events for all sports, to support our athletes as they improve their athletic skills, stay safe and have fun! Coaches participate at practices to pair volunteers with one or more athletes, and communicate any sports specific instruction to volunteers at practices and events.
